I love that (all too brief) scene in the Dead movie where the skeleton is riding through the desert, as The Wheel begins.

Crap--I just realized the solo effot is 72, isn't it? Oh well, as I always said, I only listen to LIVE DEAD prior to 72. I make exceptions for studio material...

It might be '72, but a lot of those songs had been around for awhile. It's not a typical studio album anyway, from the electronic experimentation on side two to the cover art ("Garcia" was the first album cover I ever had with a nekkid girl on it: woo-hoo!).

"Ace" seems more designed as the commercial effort of the two "solo" efforts from that era (plus it has the whole band on it). I was just looking at the QUASI-nekked Lady Luck on the cover of "Ace", and I never noticed before that she is carrying a left-handed monkey wrench (or that Hunter, not Barlow, wrote the words to GSET, for that matter). :)

I like the way Donna is credited for "the chick vocals".
It's almost as cool as Jerry's credit for "insect fear" on Rolling Thunder.
